Let’s talk about music. If I had to pinpoint the single most crucial element of being alive, to me, it’d be music. I just can’t be without it. if I ever spend a day without listening to a song, which is very very rare, I feel completely drained. Nothing moves me more. Whenever I feel lost, I remember my mantra: follow the music. and finding music around the city lights me up every time.

Guitarrica was one of my favourite artists discovered in 2021. Read on an article that his music is “anemoia,” feeling nostalgic for a time you didn’t get to know, and that’s exactly what his voice and his strings feels like.

To be fully honest, I designed this one without any songs in mind. I was just doodling for the theme of #fall, and it showed up on the canvas. The song was a suggestion from @m_ui.design who’s doing the challenge with me, when he saw the final piece. Which I loved!

This could be my dream house in the middle of nowhere. Sitting on the porch, reading a good book and listening to The Paper Kites.

No particular songs in mind for this one, just the general aspect of sad Sundays, existential questions and the profound pleasures of sad girl music. The album I was listening to while drawing: “i want all the tears back that i cried”.

NASCAR. we’re just racing in circles again.
The Repertory Project was created by designer Ruan Braz for the Overlens creative community. It consists of analyzing Behance presentations to refine the observation of good graphic designs and expand our visual repertoire. At the end of each analysis, we must reproduce one of the compositions, creating a new piece of the same style.

Fun Fact:I loved this brand so much, that when I travelled to the city the burger shop is in, I made sure to visit and try out one of their vegan burgers! It was delicious and the whole place astonished me with the feel-good decor.

Fun Fact: One of my dreams is to own a bar someday. One time I was daydreaming about it being in NYC and thought it’d be nice to call it “Please Come to Brazil” as a joke to our famous tagline. Made these posters and that little logo on the bottom right corner with this idea in mind.

Fun Fact: I designed this around Christmas time, when Lychee (Lichia in Portuguese) is a very common fruit in Brazil. I was eating some and thinking how good would it taste a wine made from it.

Feliz Ano Velho, Marcelo Rubens Paiva
book cover_editorial design
This project was a book cover redesign I did in college in 2020.
“Feliz Ano Velho” (Happy Old Year), by @marcelorubenspaiva, is an autobiographical work that made a national impact in its time (1982). In it, Marcelo tells how his life changed overnight after an accident left him paralyzed. The book expresses the irreverence and determination of youth, even in adversity, and the precocious understanding “that the future is an infinite amount of uncertainties”.
The challenge was to find a way to represent such personal and intangible content. I chose to use a more abstract concept, composing mainly with shapes and typography. The palette with shades of red expresses the inner conflicts of a journey of self-knowledge, as well as desire and yearning - for the life he had before the accident. The horizontal divisions represent the steps and stages of life that we all go through, while the vertical ones symbolize a path to the future.

What is worth in life?
It was from this question that we began to think about what was important to us during the COVID-19 Pandemic, in the first half of 2020.
A group of students from the Design and Graphic Production subject, taught by Hugo Fortes at the USP School of Communications and Arts, dedicated themselves to interpreting this theme graphically, myself included.See the full project here (in Portuguese).
